Turku Animated Film Festival

We're happy to present a diverse selection of animated films by Czech authors and filmmakers based in the Czech Republic as well as international co-productions with Czech participation at Turku Animated Film Festival in Finland!

TAFF is a celebration of short animation. Debuting in August 2016, the Turku Animated Film Festival is Finland’s youngest and most charming international animation film festival, celebrating the art of animation and creative minds.

  • The 11th edition of TAFF takes place in Turku from 26–30 August 2026

This year’s festival features over 130 films across 20 curated screening programmes, including international and national competition screenings, panorama programmes, special screenings, student films, exhibitions, workshops, and events for both audiences and animation professionals.

COMPETITION SCREENINGS

  • Abigél Dérczy: Ř (2025), Czech Republic

"Since 2022, I have been visiting the Czech Republic regularly, simply because I really enjoy being here. Every time I talk to someone Czech, the conversation somehow often ends up in the same place: the letter Ř. People tell me how difficult it is to pronounce, some even spent years learning to say it properly.

I found this contrast fascinating: a sound so hard to master, but so built into everyday life. When I moved to Prague for half a year, I decided not only to learn how to pronounce Ř myself, but also to make a film about it.

This film is about finding my own way in the Czech Republic. It is also a kind of thank you to the country, and to the people I have met here." Abigél Dérczy, Hungarian animator and illustrator / TAFF

  • Živa Divjak: Our Walls (2026), Czech Republic

"This film began with a quiet conversation with my mother about caring for her own mother. Through making it, I began to see her not only as a parent, but as a woman shaped by love, duty, and loss. The process also opened difficult questions about my own future and the roles I may one day carry.

This film is my attempt to understand the boundary between love for others and love for oneself, between caring for someone and living your own life." Živa Divjak, Slovenian animator and filmmaker based in Prague / TAFF

  • Anna Mantzaris: Please (2026), Sweden

PLEASE is a dark comedy about humankind’s desire to love and to be loved. An animated short centred around neediness, intimacy and romance. A Swedish short film was produced in collaboration with Finland, France, Norway and Kulifilm Production in Czech Republic. / TAFF

NON-COMPETITION SCREENINGS (“Panorama”)

  • Antonie Zavadilová: The Autoharp Crushing on Hot Guys (2026), Czech Republic

A conversation between friends about relationships and feelings is developed in an imaginative, colorful animation. Despite their different life experiences, which are also influenced by the fact that one of the girls has Down syndrome and the other doesn‘t, they both deal with similar issues. What if they had The Autoharp Crushing on Hot Guys. / Turku Animated Film Festival

  • Šimon Mészáros: Quantum Jump (2026), Czech Republic

In a surreal journey of self-discovery, a man serving twins in a luxurious mansion confronts the unknown world hidden behind the conditioning. He outplays them and embarks on a symbolic odyssey through a magic orchard, the world around him decays into fading echoes of meaning, revealing renewal within the ruins of universal self. /Turku Animated Film Festival
