Visegrad Film Days will present contemporary films from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary over four days (March 9–12, 2026) at the independent cinema Zita. All films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles.
The Czech film representative will be the witty drama Summer School, 2001, which premiered in the summer on July 24, 2025, at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary.
Summer School, 2001 tells the story of seventeen-year-old Kien, known for his distinctive hairstyle, who returns to his family at a marketplace in the Czech town of Cheb after spending ten years in Vietnam. Instead of a warm welcome, he is met by a distant father, a worried mother, and a younger brother who doesn’t let anything slide. Between ironing Pokémon designs onto T-shirts, practicing Czech, and going on dates by the lake, a secret gradually comes to the surface—one that will turn life at the entire marketplace upside down… (freely translated from the press kit available on the KVIFF film festival website)
